Hair lengthening and densification

photomontage

Used graphic application:
Adobe Photoshop 7

When moving the cursor above the image on the left - the image before the processing appears.

The photo used in this tutorial comes from the site: www.buy-photo.eu

1. Open the Photoshop program.

2. Open the photo purposed to processing: File » Open (Ctrl + O)
...or by double clicking the left mouse button on the dark grey application background.

We'll try to lengthen and optically thicken hair. For that purpose we'll use hair of the model - the ones that she already has. We'll be copying the fragments of her haircut and moving it to the different locations - like we are pinning up hairpieces:) So let's get to work.

3. Choose the Lasso Tool from the toolbox lasso tool (L).
Use it to select (outline) the hair fragment on the right, that is suitable to move to the left side of the image. I chose that fragment:

selected part of haircut

Now copy that fragment: press Ctrl + C keys (copy), and then paste it to the new layer: Ctrl + V (paste). Program creates the new layer automatically and there is where it puts (pastes) the earlier copied fragment. In the layers panel appears the new layer with the fragment of the copied haircut - preview.
Now we have to flip it horizontally and move it to the left. For that purpose choose: Edit » Transform » Flip Horizontal from the program menu. That's how we flipped that hair fragment:

after use - flip horizontal

Now we'll move it to the destination. Choose the Move Tool move tool (V) from the toolbox, grab that fragment with the mouse and move it to the left. I received that effect:

hair to fix

I'm not satisfied with that effect yet - hair is sticking up. It needs to be rotated. Choose: Edit » Free Transform from the program menu or press Ctrl + T keys. Around the pasted fragment appears the rectangle with little squares on its sides and corners:

free transform

Place the cursor on the external side of that rectangle, near the corner, click the left mouse button and, holding it, move the mouse in the proper direction. When it is good - press Enter.
As you can see in the picture, part of the model forehead is covered by hair. We'll erase it using rubber. Choose the Eraser Tool eraser tool from the toolbox (E). At the moment, forehead line from before casting is invisible, covered by hair, so there is no knowing how to lead the rubber . No worries. Reduce the Opacity value of the layer with pasted hair fragment. For that purpose move the slider located in the upper part of the layers bookmark to the left - to the value of 50-60% (image below):

wipe the hair

Now, when the forehead line is visible, we can erase unwanted hair - so erase:) After erasing - set the Opacity value back to 100%. Here's the effect:

photomontage step 1

4. Since we copied and rotated hairpiece in the new layer (in the third step), make use of it and pin it up in another position - below the prior one. For that purpose, when the layer created in the third step is active (highlighted with blue) - press Ctrl + J keys. We can see now that in the layers panel (bookmark) - appears the new identical layer - preview. Now use the earlier introduced Move Tool move tool (V) to place it in the proper location, then erase unwanted fragments with the rubber. Effect:

photomontage - step 4

5. As we know how to copy, move and rotate hair fragments and clone layers - there is nothing else to do than continuing with pinning up hairpieces until the satisfactory result is received. Every haircut is different so I don't see sense in continuing the description to the final effect. You have to just keep repeating above described steps and use your imagination:) It is not easy. That's why I marked this tutorial with the highest difficulty level. There are haircuts that are quite easy but there are ones with which you have to work miracles, unfortunately. However, it may be useful to many of you.
Time for final. Here's the effect (move the cursor above the photo):
